The Future of an Universal Language

To what extent a language could be considered universal?

“English is likely to remain one world’s most important language for the foreseeable future, but its future is more problematic, and complex, than most people appreciate”, David Graddol said.

A language could be considered universal if people need to communicate among them. Nowadays, English is the first among equals, but not the most spoken in the world. That´s why it’s considered “the language of the future”. So, according to linguists, it could be difficult to forget a native language and learn another one, increasing the possibility of displacing English from the first most popular language. However, the education in schools and universities has an important role in the introduction of a new language, creating a society able to speak and understand the intricacies of a language. In that way, English aspires to be a native language. On the other hand, the globalization of English, gives some benefits to the society, one of them is forget the popular “American Dream” and concentrate in your country, cause there wouldn’t be the necessity of travelling to another country to find a good job opportunity.
